Aspiring wizards and witches will be able to embark on a spellbinding four-day adventure in a castle in East Sussex in England.

Bothwell School of Witchcraft is a fictional school of magic where guests can come and immerse themselves in a live action magical experience. It opens its doors every few months, and will welcome its next cohort of magic-seeking students in August for four days of classes, adventure and activities.

The magic happens at the stunning Herstmonceux Castle, which dates from the 15th century. Set on 300 acres, the castle is renowned for its superb Elizabethan gardens as well as its moat, and classes will take place in its historic rooms.

Each wizard or witch is first sorted into a ‘house’ and given a unique character to represent over the four days. Guests can become a student or a professor and will take part in everyday school life. They will receive a questionnaire upon booking their ticket that will ask for preferences, and will then be issued with a synopsis and a character brief. Outside of this, guests are encouraged to add their own personal characteristics to their character.

Role-play is encouraged but not expected, and guests will take part in lessons on the art of witchcraft. These include classes on falconry and alchemy that will make the experience an immersive one. The event wraps up with a lavish ball and banquet on the final evening in the main hall.

There are various ticket packages available, but a standard ticket costs £565 ($713), which covers three-nights accommodation, all meals and robe and tie hire. The next event takes place from 8 to 11 August and tickets are on sale through Eventbrite here.
