New Zealand's North Island: 11 Days in Auckland and Rotorua

Overview

This morning, you’ll head just outside Auckland to see the spectacular sights and coastal scenery that defines much of New Zealand. After breakfast this morning, you’ll meet your driver and expert local guide for the start of this full-day adventure. You’ll make your first stop at the Arataki Information Centre, perched high on the ridge within Auckland’s largest regional park, Waitakere Ranges. The drive to get here only takes about 30 minutes, but it may as well transport you to a new world. Here, the bustle of the city is no more, replaced by the tranquility of the rainforest. During your visit, you’ll lean into these rainforest surroundings and take a short hike, enjoying panoramic views and local flora — with a special visit to an iconic Kauri tree. You’ll also learn about the significance of the Māori community; your expert local guide will point out traditional cavings, as well as native plants used for food and medicine by the Māori people. After your rainforest immersion, your guide will take you to a scenic picnic spot, where you’ll tuck into a fresh lunch from a local bakery. When you’re done, the tour will continue with another short hike. This time, you'll head along the clifftop tracks with stunning views of the Tasman Sea. For the second half of your tour, you’ll visit a beautiful West Coast beach to stroll along the soft black sands and watch as the surf waves come crashing in — the perfect endpoint to your day in nature.
