Perhaps you’ve recently spotted pics of an enchanting sea swing popping up on Instagram and other social media. We have, and in desire to fly and dip our feet in the sea at the same time, we located this slice of heaven: Moro Beach Club Stupe on the tiny island Vela Stupe, nestled between the island of Korčula and the peninsula of Pelješac in the south of Croatia.
The idyllic sea swing has become somewhat of a signature snapshot for Moro Beach. “It was our common idea. In this era of social networks and experiential tourism, we wanted to treat our guests with a simple ‘key’ to fabulous vacation images. Besides the swing, crafted of centennial Slavonian oak, we used a large painting frame to mark another picture-perfect spot on the island. Given the number of shares on social media, we now know it was a good idea,” Ana Lozica, PR for Moro Beach Club, told Lonely Planet News.
The sea swing perfectly embodies Moro Beach’s easy spirit and relaxed summer vibe. This blissful spot couples a restaurant, lounge, cocktail bar and a beach, all designed to accentuate the alluring setting of Korčula archipelago, its azure blue sea and stunning nature. As the tiny Vela Stupe island is only accessible by boat, the club also includes free berths. Hence it didn’t take long for Moro to become the place to escape the hustle and bustle of Croatian summers and enjoy the very essence of the Adriatic region: breath-taking scenery, delicious foods and great wines.
“We wanted to give something back to Korčula, our native island. Having spent most of our lives elsewhere, Moro Beach Club Stupe was a way of returning to our roots and giving back to the community. We work with local suppliers, from fisherman to wineries, but also local taxi boats, who bring guests to the island from the nearby towns of Orebić and Korčula,” said Pero Lozica, a lawyer, recreational sailor and founder of Moro.
Interestingly, the restaurant head chef, Igor Gudac, and his right hand Matija Kruhonja, both come from Croatia’s inland capital of Zagreb, but according to Ana, “swim like fish in the sea at Moro.” Known as very intuitive chefs, their menu highlights local ingredients, mainly from the sea, but varies daily, and sometimes even between lunch and dinner – depending on what’s fresh and inspiring that very day. Bread, pasta, croissants and ice cream are all made from scratch on the island, even salt! Coupled with a fine list of cocktails, regional whites and reds, and French sparkling wines, it doesn’t surprise that once you experience Moro, you will certainly be #back4moro.
