This new hotel chain might be changing the accommodation game one European city at a time.
The Student Hotel, founded by Scottish entrepreneur Charlie MacGregor in Amsterdam, has one simple motto: “may the student in you live forever”. Its aim is redefining and understanding what makes a “student” by offering the same accommodation and the same common spaces to people who are actually students and to those who simply have never left the student mentality behind them.
“I think it’s really been a surprise how much the hotel guests really pick up on the atmosphere the students, our sacred customers, bring to the space,” writes MacGregor on the company’s homepage. And he adds that he’d like for everyone staying at his hotels to consider them their “hybrid home away from home”. A hybrid like its customers, which are either studying or vacationing or touring. Everyone is welcome.
“We re-imagined our hotels as boundary-blurring spaces where students, travelers, mobile professionals, creative nomads, enterprising minds could connect in smart design co-living and co-working spaces,” reads the company’s website. And the design of the hotels is smart alright – you certainly won’t find yourself lacking social media-worthy photo opportunities in any hotel of the TSH group.
What you also won’t miss is high-quality accommodation, since all hotels feature a cocktail bar and a restaurant, gym, fitness areas, pools and sky bars, a library, a study room, a game room, bike-renting services, and a music store.
The Student Hotel currently has eleven buildings in as many European cities, two in Amsterdam, and then Barcelona, Florence, Dresden, Rotterdam, the Hague, Eindhoven, Groningen, Maastricht, and Paris, and it’s opening another eight in the next couple of years, in cities such as Berlin, Rome, Madrid, Lisbon, Vienna, and Porto. “Our goal is having 41 properties in Europe by 2021,” says MacGregor.
