Located in the charming seaside town of Porto Cristo on the east side of the island, the Som Dona Hotel is a concept made by women for women. The project emerged following extensive market research that included focus groups and interviews among customers asking what products they desired. Results pointed out that most women seek wanderlust destinations and are driven by healthy lifestyle habits around the mind and body, while socialising with other women. “We want to go further and make every experience unique by matching our customer’s needs. Currently, we are working hard on experience packages based on fitness activities, health and detox retreats, discovering local culture, among others,” a representative of Som Dona told Lonely Planet.

According to the Som Dona, the hotel aims to follow in the footsteps of women-only businesses such as gyms, co-working spaces and insurance companies. “This also happens within the tourism industry with women-only hotels and resorts in Germany, Scandinavia and Japan. In addition, we believe that the future of tourism is through the specialisation and the personalisation of the travel experience. Som Dona, as a women-only hotel, will meet an increasing demand trend.”

The hotel opened in June, and has 39 rooms that have been carefully designed for women. They all have an artistic concept, with beautiful views to a forest. Each room has a double bed, comfortable furniture and a private bathroom. The double room comes with customised services such as pillow and aroma menus, daily international newspapers, tea and coffee in-room service, premium amenities, early check-in and late check-out. Some of Mallorca’s best beaches are located within five minutes driving distance, such as Cala Petita, el Caló d’en Rafalino and Cala Murta. Visiting small cliffs, caving, sailing, and many other water related activities are available, as well as a variety of walking and cycling routes. Som Dona also offers healthy cuisine made with only local products, a wellness area, a pool, free Wi-Fi, and a bar-lounge.

The hotel also said that is has offered job opportunities to women that are traditionally male-driven, while seeking to meet regulations for non-discriminatory recruitment policies. More information on Som Dona Hotel is available at the official website.
