A new crowdfunding campaign is launching this week that will allow action sports enthusiasts to sign up to a network of gear rental facilities in different locations around the world, making it easier to plan trips and avoid the cost of airline shipping.

Adventure Pass is an annual subscription service that will allow users to rent gear such as surfboards, skis, mountain bikes and paddle boards, as well as offering discounts to members on equipment rental in different locations around the world. It will have a selection of different membership offers, with different prices and bundles included in each one. An app that integrates a map of rental locations around the world, will allow users to browse in whatever countries they plan on travelling to. So far, the campaign includes rental opportunities in places such as California, Germany, Brazil, Australia, South Africa, Japan as well as a diverse range of other locations and climates.

Users will also be able to reserve gear ahead of time through the app before picking it up at the location, enabling the option to forgo the costs associated with flying with large equipment. “The idea came from my love of travel and from past regrets I’ve had where I was just feet away from an unforgettable adventure, but didn’t have the cash to rent the gear I needed,” founder Nic Woodhams told Lonely Planet News. For every ten passes that are sold, Adventure Pass will also sponsor an underprivileged child’s adventure on an outward bound course.
