This year, 1000 travellers will get to enjoy the spookiest day of the year at a dance party beside Bran Castle in Transylvania, Romania. The event is being organised by G Adventures and will start in Bucharest on 31 October.

From the Romanian capital, travellers will drive to Bran Castle where they get a tour of the famous national monument, one of several castles linked to the legend of Count Dracula. There, they’ll be able to wander through hidden tunnels, secret staircases and explore the creaking corridors of the 14th century fortress. That evening, there will be an enormous fancy dress dance party with drinks, food trucks, and music to party the night away. Next day includes a trip to Brasov where travellers can either visit the famous Black Church and local history museum or go hiking in the countryside.

G Adventures are also offering a seven-day Halloween-themed tour, which takes in several other sites linked to the Dracula legend. That includes the ruins of Poenari Castle in Bucharest, one of the main fortresses of Vlad the Impaler, and a trip to the old walled town of Sighisoara, a Unesco World Heritage site.

Brian Young, managing director of G Adventures, told Lonely Planet: “unlike many [of our] other trips, which focus on small groups, the new Dracula’s Halloween Party in Transylvania will see us taking away a thousand brave travellers for the ultimate fancy dress party at Dracula’s Castle. The whole trip is designed to create the ultimate Halloween experience, from a tour of Bran Castle itself, to the giant tented party in the castle grounds. Fancy dress won’t be done by halves as travellers go all-out with weird and wonderful outfits to get everyone in the spirit of Halloween.”
