Say goodbye to shaky holiday shots thanks to this new selfie stick
A new mobile stick will help with the frustration of thinking you've captured the perfect shot, only to find it's blurred or crooked and the moment to take a better shot has passed. Whether you're trying to take the perfect selfie from a jeep on safari, or capture a meteor that unexpectedly streaks through the sky, the new Osmo mobile stick adjusts automatically to keep your smartphone steady.
The Osmo stick is manufactured by DJI, and it was unveiled at this year's IFA in Berlin, a leading trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances. To use the device, you download the DJI GO app and slot the stick on to your smartphone. It uses ‘active track’ technology to lock your viewfinder onto a subject.
The app sends enough data to the stick to allow it to adjust smoothly, and hey presto, blur and shake are things of the past. This means that you can enjoy the sight in front of you, without having to fiddle around with the phone to make sure its steady. It also enables the capture of time lapse videos, panoramic and long-exposure shots without the need for a tripod.
This would be particularly useful if you were trying to capture images while in motion, whether from a tour bus climbing steep slopes at Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, or doing a bungee jump off Kawarau Bridge in New Zealand. Bloggers can even livestream directly from the device to YouTube or Facebook.
A thumbstick controller allows for the control of the zoom and recording functions, and an adjustable clamp means it will work with most phones. For further information, see here.
