The Pestana CR7 hotel will be launched by the sports star in partnership with the Portuguese Pestana Group, and it will be built in the luxurious M Avenue development in the centre of the Moroccan city. This new development aims to revitalise Marrakesh with new hotels, boutiques, restaurants, cafes, offices, art galleries and exhibition locations.
The interior design of the 168-room hotel will be overseen by Milan-based company, Eclettico Design, under the guidance of Igor Rebosio and Giuseppe Varsavia. It will have two restaurants, a business centre, and a fitness centre with a spa, and there will be a roof-garden with a pool area and sky bar.
The Moroccan influence will be evident in geometric patterns in the interior design created by local craftspeople, and the texture of lights and shadows projected by custom-made lamps. Materials used include local stones, woods and fabric.
The hotel will be the third for the Real Madrid player, after he and Pestana opened two others in Lisbon and Ronaldo’s birthplace Funchal. The captain of the Portuguese national football team also plans to open hotels in Madrid, New York and Paris in the coming years.
Ronaldo is no stranger to Marrakesh, and he celebrated New Year’s Eve there in 2017 with his Moroccan friend, kickboxer Badr Hari, and his former teammate, Karim Benzema.
