To showcase just how broad the capabilities of “the world’s most popular camera”, Apple decided to start off the year with a Shot on iPhone Challenge.

The California-based company invited iPhone users to send over the photographs they had taken on their devices and then selected ten winning photos— coming from everywhere in the world, from Singapore to Belarus.

“These images portray colourful urban spaces, curious animals, unique reflections, the beauty of ordinary things and much more,” Apple wrote in a statement describing the images. These ten photos were selected by a panel of eleven jurors (including Pete Souza, who was President Obama’s official photographer) and will be used in Apple ads and stores around the world for the next year.
