A survey has revealed the airlines with the cleanest cabins, and in what may prove surprising to learn, not a single carrier from the US or UK made the top 30. Japan has a huge reputation for cleanliness worldwide, so it's probably fitting that a Japanese carrier comes in top place in the World’s Best Airline Cabin Cleanliness 2018 awards in the 2018 Skytrax World Airline Awards.

The online survey was conducted between August 2017 to May 2018, and it solicited passengers' opinions on the presentation of airlines' tables, carpets, cabin panels and washrooms. The survey database totalled 24.45m customers, and the results revealed that seven out of the top ten rated airlines were Asian. Two of the top 30 airlines were Australian, but no US or UK carriers made the top 30 airlines when rated for cleanliness.

Japan's ANA All Nippon Airways came in top place, with Taiwan-based Eva Air in second place and South Korea's Asiana Airlines in third place. The rest of the top 20 airlines were 4. Singapore Airlines 5. Japan Airlines 6. Cathay Pacific Airways 7. Qatar Airways 8. Swiss International Air Lines 9. Hainan Airlines 10. Lufthansa 11. Korean Air 12. Cathay Dragon 13. Austrian Airlines 14. China Airlines 15. Thai Airways 16. Garuda Indonesia 17. China Southern Airlines 18. Bangkok Airways 19. Emirates and 20. Air New Zealand.

There were also awards given for the cleanest airlines on various continents and regions. South African Airways was chosen for Africa; Air New Zealand won for Australia/Pacific; Hainan Airlines came first in China; Swiss International Air Lines won for Europe; Air Canada was chosen for North America; Azul Airlines was the winner in South America 2018 and Qatar Airways won for the Middle East 2018
