You can now get closer to the Dubai Fountain than ever before, thanks to a newly constructed 272m-long floating boardwalk in the lake at the base of the towering Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.
The dancing fountain is one of Dubai’s most popular attractions and is choreographed to music ranging from Michael Jackson’s Thriller to Arab dance tracks and songs from Bollywood stars. The floating platforms will get you as close as 9m from the fountains, which can shoot water up to 140m, so you’re bound to get soaked (and it doesn’t sound like a waterproof poncho is included in the ticket price). Because of its popularity, it’s not always easy to snag a good spot to watch a Dubai Fountain performance, so the boardwalk will give a perfect front-row view and might even make you part of the show.
The floating platform is open daily from 5pm to 11pm (prime time for a sunset visit) and costs just Dhs20. Children under four are not allowed on the platform. Buy tickets at the Fountain promenade, Burj Park or At The Top ticket counters for the Burj Khalifa. You can also book in advance online on the Burj Khalifa website.
If the floating boardwalk is too close and personal for you, book a cruise on a wooden abra (a traditional boat) that sets sail for 25-minute rides around the lake for Dhs65.
