From the Plain of Jars in Laos to the otherworldly landscapes of Vatnajökull National Park in Iceland, a number of new sites have been added to the Unesco World Heritage List. The list recognises places of natural, historic and cultural significance around the world. Chosen by representatives of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco), the sites are intended to be preserved and protected for future generations.
