Houston's glass-bottomed 'sky pool' gives swimmers a head-spinning street view
A glass-bottomed “sky pool” in Houston is not for the faint of heart, giving swimmers an uninterrupted view of the sidewalk 500 feet below, as they enjoy the warm Texas weather.
The amazing pool is located in a new luxury apartment high-rise, Market Square Tower, in Houston, Texas. The tower posted a spine-chilling video on its social media accounts, in which someone walks to the edge of the roof in the pool and then appears almost to step off the side of the building and onto the glass platform. Naturally, the video either thrilled or terrified most people, and managed to rack up more than 2 million views on Facebook.
The building’s website describes the unusual amenity as an “infinity deck with a glass bottom pool shelf cantilevered over the rooftop edge” – and pictures from the tower’s Instagram make the rest of the swimming area look pretty amazing too. And if you still can’t get over the idea of swimming more than 40-storeys in the air, it’s good to note that the glass keeping swimmers safe is about eight inches thick.
If having a terrifying pool in your home is up your alley, the building also boasts quite a number of amazing amenities, like an outdoor lounge area with spots to grill or have a camp fire, a state-of-the-art gym, a pet-grooming room, and more.
Naturally though, it will cost you to live in luxury, as a penthouse with three rooms would set you back about $18,715 per month. But, if you don’t have the cash to rent a penthouse in order to get access to the incredible pool, it’s not Houston’s only unique swimming area. The new Marriott Marquis hotel features a lazy river pool that is in the shape of Texas.
