Durga Puja, the annual five-day Hindu festival is taking place this week. Across Bengal, especially in Kolkata, temporary pandals (pavilions) are raised and intense celebrations take place to worship the Hindu goddess Durga, who slayed the demon king Mahishasur, marking the triumph of good over evil. After four colourful days, beautiful clay idols of the 10-armed deity are immersed in the rivers.
