From Greta Thunberg to Greta Gerwig and Jo March to Wonder Woman, our real and imaginary worlds are full of examples of brilliant, strong and fearless women. A new hotel is opening that strives to celebrate female empowerment in all its forms

This spring, Viceroy Hotel Group will launch Hotel Zena, a 191-room hotel and cultural hub in Washington, DC's Logan Circle that’s poised to be the first to celebrate the accomplishments of amazing women. In a statement, the property is deemed “an ode to feminine strength, celebrated by all genders, races and sexualities, and a haven for the liberated forward thinker.”

The space, formerly the Donovan Hotel, will be completely renovated and transformed; it’ll be the latest hotel to join The Viceroy Urban Retreats, a portfolio of high-end boutique hotels that meld edgy eccentricity with a vibe of cultural significance.

“Washington, DC is one of the most culturally-diverse metropolitans with a female-majority population, and there is no better place or more relevant time to fill this void in the travel market,” says Jon Bortz, president and CEO of Pebblebrook Hotel Trust. "Hotel Zena amplifies the courage and perspectives of women through art whilst lighting the path to a fluid and liberated future."

Among its features will be artwork honoring cultural and historical icons and that which inspires to spark conversation, like a mural of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and a 50-foot winding pyrometric serpent. A lounge space will offer a rotating series of live music, local artists and salon-style gatherings, a lobby bar will offer cocktails, small plates and seasonal snacks and the 14th floor rooftop pool offering views of the DC skyline.

The adjacent Logan Circle neighborhood offers vibrant music venues including the Black Cat and the legendary 9:30 Club, local boutiques like Salt & Sundry, where you can find a curated collection of goods for home entertaining, French bistro Le Diplomate, beer-centric Birch & Barley and ChurchKey and Barcelona Wine Bar.

Rates start at $169 (€152) per night and are available to begin booking in this link for the spring.
