The Bahamas' swimming pigs are back to full health as they're captured playing with tourists

Stunning close-up pictures have captured tourists frolicking with adorable swimming pigs in the crystal-clear waters off Pig Beach – proving they are in good health following recent scares.

The fun-filled shots capture the friendly pigs swimming up to tourists and sniffing the camera with their snouts. The incredible photographs were taken at Big Major Cay, Exuma Cays, Bahamas by British photographer Chris Knight.

It's still legal to feed the pigs and they're friendly enough that tourists can have fun swimming with them“These pigs are smart and large", said Chris. "It was hilarious watching people trying to lure a pig in to the water by bribing it with bread or scraps of food in one hand while trying to line up the perfect picture with their phone or camera in the other."

No one seems to know for sure how the pigs got here but many locals have their own ideas.  “Some say they were left by a group of sailors who planned to come back and cook them or that the pigs were stranded there when the ship they were on got wrecked nearby", said Chris, but added that he thinks these are "tall stories".

“I asked our local guide his opinion and while he said that he had heard the tales, it was actually just a case of them being brought over from Staniel Cay some years ago by their owners who were receiving complaints from their neighbours."
