Spend a night at the American Museum of Natural History in New York

If sleeping in the presence of the world’s largest dino and waking up to whale noises is a lifelong dream for you, we have some good news: The American Museum of Natural History in New York City has two adults-only sleepover events scheduled for 5 May and 30 June.

For those 21 and up, a $350 ticket buys access to the museum exhibits outside of opening hours and a program of events that run from 7pm to 9am. You’ll start your visit with a glass of champagne and a sit-down dinner, then proceed to the 45 exhibit halls. Special presentations  include a flashlight tour of the fossil halls, an in-depth digital exploration of the museum’s collection of Egyptian and Peruvian mummies and a midnight showing of the IMAX film Dark Universe, narrated by “Cosmos” star Neil DeGrasse Tyson. And of course, plenty of time to gawk at the museum’s famous T-Rex.

‘It’s a grown-up experience for the kid in all of us’, Brad Harris, the senior director for Visitor Services, says.  ‘The typical sleepover participant attends the event intent on seeing the Museum in a more intimate and up close way.  [A]lone in a darkened hall standing next to our 122-foot Titanosaur… it’s a pretty unique experience.’

Sleeping bags (bring your own) will be unrolled in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life, beneath the blue whale – but those looking to pull an all-nighter can hang out in the ‘Lunar Lounge’, which will be stocked with snacks and charging stations for those electronic devices. (When you casually mention sleeping under a 94-foot whale to your coworkers on Monday, you’ll want to have some photographic evidence.)

The Night at the Museum program has been a mainstay at the museum since 2006, and launched its adults-only nights soon thereafter.
