Shoppers can now zoom down a four-storey slide at a mall in China

Shoppers in the western Chinese city of Chongqing can now avail of a giant spiral slide that has opened in a local shopping mall. The slide was installed at the Nanping Shanghai Bailian (南坪上海城百联购物中心) shopping centre in the metropolis and opened on 15 February.

The slide is around 16 metres high and descends from the fourth floor to the ground floor. A ride on the 50-metre-long slide takes a whooshing 12 seconds from top to bottom. Sliders must don a cloth sack to descend and at the bottom they shoot out onto a padded mat. Sliders must be over the age of three and at least 1.2m tall in order to ride.

This is not the first time a shopping mall in China has tried to entice shoppers with a giant slide. In February 2016, a five-storey slide was unveiled at the Printemps Department Store in Shanghai.
