With most of the world staying at home, a global fundraising TV and streaming concert should provide entertainment that can be enjoyed from the sofa.
The World Health Organization has teamed up with international advocacy organization, Global Citizen, to launch ‘One World Together At Home,” curated by singer-songwriter Lady Gaga and featuring major music stars and celebrities. It aims to raise funds to purchase protective equipment for health workers on the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic and help local and regional charities that provide food, shelter and healthcare to those that need help most.
The live broadcast will feature the real-life experiences of doctors, nurses and families living through the pandemic. Stars like Lizzo, Andrea Bocelli. Billie Eilish, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder and Elton John will perform at it, and it will be hosted by US talk show hosts, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert, with help from friends from Sesame Street. Funding pledges from philanthropists and businesses will go to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for WHO.
Other performers include Alanis Morissette, Chris Martin, David Beckham, Eddie Vedder, Finneas, John Legend, Kacey Musgraves, Keith Urban and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. Idris Elba, who had COVID-19, will also participate, along with his wife Sabrina Dhowre, and performers will practise social distancing by appearing remotely.
One World: Together At Home will be broadcast live on 18 April at 5pm PDT/8pm EDT/12am GMT airing on ABC, NBC, ViacomCBS Networks, iHeartMedia and Bell Media networks and platforms in Canada and other international broadcasters. It will also be a multi-hour digital broadcast streaming online on multiple global platforms, including: Alibaba, Amazon Prime Video, Apple, Facebook, Instagram, LiveXLive, Tencent, Tencent Music Entertainment Group, TIDAL, TuneIn, Twitch, Twitter, Yahoo and YouTube.
