How to book your next flight using an Instagram screenshot

The next time you see an image on Instagram that sparks your wanderlust, you might be able to book a flight to that destination using a screenshot of the image. Airline company EasyJet has just launched a new search function in their app which allows customers to book a flight through Instagram photos.

Look&Book is EasyJet’s new search function that can be fed with Instagram screenshots. Users take a screenshot of the destination that caught their interest on Instagram, they upload it to the app and EasyJet will find the best route and flight options to get them there. It will also help users find out where the photo was taken in instances where the image isn’t geo-tagged or identified. The service is applicable to destinations in Europe and North Africa. So far, the service is only available on Instagram but the company is hoping to launch on other picture-sharing apps such as Snapchat and Pinterest soon.

“We were also aware of what was going on in Instagram – that aspirational feel that when you see a celebrity or a friend doing something fun and wanting to know where they are,” Daniel Young, easyJet’s head of digital experience, told Campaign. “But what was happening was you find the photo, try and work out where it is, go into Google and find the nearest airport, then go to an airline’s website. We saw an opportunity to close that gap into a seamless process.”

Instagram is inching closer to the one billion users milestone and users routinely share photos of travel destinations and inspiration. Last month the Facebook-owned platform released the top road trips that appear most often on Instagram feeds.
