If you dream of getting in on the van life trend but worry about giving up on space and luxury, then keep your eyes open for the new extra-large Volkswagen motorhome that will come out next year.
Volkswagen is premiering its new motorhome design, the Grand California, later this month in Düsseldorf. The new model greatly extends the amount of space compared to the company’s other vehicles, coming complete with a bathroom, large sleeping area and can even feature a high bunk bed for children.
Based on the company’s already successful California model, the much bigger campervan will launch in early 2019. It takes inspiration from Volkswagen’s iconic campers, but one feature that sets it apart is the bathroom. It includes a toilet, shower, a fold-out wash basin, shelves with holders for toiletries, towel holders and a skylight for ventilation. It can also carry 110 litres of water and has lights that turn on automatically thanks to motion detectors. The camper will also have a connection at the back for an external shower with adjustable water temperature to make an outdoor shower easy and possible should you want a bit more space.
There is also plenty of living space if you plan on trekking the country with a family. When you want to enjoy a nice meal, there’s a large dining table with room for four. There is also a pull-out, 70-litre fridge with freezer compartment, a twin-hob gas cooker, a sink and more, so you can keep your culinary skills in use while on the road.
There’s also the sort of modern features that will please tech-savvy travellers, like Bluetooth speakers so you can play music over the loudspeakers. Other features that can be added are things like an additional roof-mounted air-conditioning unit at the back, an awning, a rear bicycle rack and a camping table and chairs that can be stowed in the wing doors. But, since the concept isn’t yet released, how much this new campervan will actually cost won’t be known until later this month.
This isn’t the only new Volkswagen concept that has people intrigued – last year the company unveiled a vintage-inspired electric campervan called the I.D BUZZ.
