Last weekend marked the 9th annual McKenna Subaru Surf City Surf Dog competition, which saw 59 of the world’s most talented dogs surfing some mellow waves at Huntington Beach, California. The event was broken up into eight categories, including surfers that were small, medium, large and extra-large, as well as tandem categories for dog-dog and dog-human partnerships. There was also a special stand-up paddle boarding division of the competition.

An estimated 3000 people attended the popular event, which included a number of dog-loving exhibitors and food trucks. An awards ceremony was held immediately after the competition, honouring the winners across the different categories, with all proceeds from the event going towards a number of local animal charities.

Winners included Prince Dudeman, a Bichon Frise / Japanese Chin mix, Giselle, a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, Sugar the Surfing Dog and Bono, a chocolate Labrador.
