Check out incredible 1950s and '60s architecture during Modernism Week in Palm Springs
If you're a fan of 1950s and '60s architecture, Palm Springs will be the place to go later this month when the city celebrates Modernism Week.
It will feature more than 250 events, including signature home tours in more than 25 neighbourhoods, films, lectures, architectural bus, walking and bike tours.
These events will be complemented by other events, encompassing fashion, classic cars, modern garden tours and a vintage travel trailer exhibition.
Modernism Week was conceived in 2006, following the success of both the Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale and the annual symposium organised by the Palm Springs Art Museum’s architecture and design council.
In 2009, it became a non-profit organisation, and it established an annual scholarship programme for local high school seniors pursuing college educations in the fields of architecture and design.
It continues to provide financial support to local and state preservation organisations and neighbourhood groups in their efforts to preserve modernist architecture throughout California.
One of the week’s most highly-anticipated events is the 17th annual Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale at the Palm Springs Convention Center, which will offer furniture, decorative and fine arts representing design movements of the 20th Century.
