The Cliff Palace at Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado will close for the season on 14 September so work crews can repair the 700-year-old structure.

North America’s largest cliff dwelling, the Cliff Palace was constructed by the Ancestral Puebloans, an ancient Native American culture that spanned parts of Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado. The National Park Service said that the structure requires careful masonry work to repair cracks that have appeared. Crews will also assess whether further restrictions need to be put in place in 2016. Visitors can still view Cliff Palace from an overlook, and there are other cliff dwellings available to visit.
