The list was compiled by Canadian online travel agency Flight Network, which turned to hundreds of travel professionals like journalists, editors and agents to create a massive list of beaches for lovers of sun, sand and surf. With its crystal waters and soft white sand, Grace Bay in Turks and Caicos took the top spot on the list. Naturally, it looks like what most people imagine when thinking of the ideal beach holiday spot. One of the reasons that Grace Bay ranks so highly is because it’s well-protected by a colourful barrier reef, making it the perfect place for a swim without the worries of rocks, seaweed or pollution.

In second place is Australia’s Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday Islands. The gorgeous stretch of white-sand beach is not only incredible to look at, but is only accessible by helicopter or seaplane, so you are sure to enjoy a pristine experience.

Another tropical destination came in third, as Anse Lazio in Seychelles promises palm trees, stretching coastlines and amazing views of the sunset. The spectacular pastel colours of the fourth-place Pink Sands Beach in the Bahamas are sure to make you the envy of all your Instagram followers. For something more unique, Navagio Beach in Greece came in fifth for its famous ship wreck Panagiotis, which is surrounded by awe-inspiring cliffs.

This is the company’s first ever list of the 50 best beaches, which were ranked based on five criteria: sheer untouched beauty, remoteness, sand and water quality, annual days of sunshine, and average annual temperature. Travel professionals from around the world were consulted for suggestions, and the list was made from the beaches with the most number of votes and their ranking according to the criteria.
