A six-week internship is on offer to work with conservationists of the Great Barrier Reef
A six-week internship is on offer from January 2018 in Queensland, Australia, and it may appeal to someone taking a gap year before starting college. It will involve working with the new environmental movement, Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef, and helping to protect one of the natural wonders of the world.
Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef is a social movement that aims to unite people from around the world to combat the pressures put upon the planet’s biodiversity. This includes learning how to care for the Great Barrier Reef and preserving and conserving it for future generations to enjoy. The lucky applicant chosen will be part of the small but dynamic team, and must be a UK citizen aged 18 to 35. They’ll be involved with all the organisation’s exciting activities, including visiting different parts of the Reef and meeting some of the area’s top conservationists and wildlife documentary producers, many of whom have worked with David Attenborough.
With all this amazing access, it shouldn’t be hard for them to support the team and gain invaluable experience by learning how to create content and social media. The intern will play a key part in sharing content in order to publicise the cause and recruit new ‘citizens.’ “We’re really excited to be offering this opportunity for a young person to come to the most famous natural wonder on the planet," says Andy Ridley, CEO of Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef. "We’re ultimately looking for a great ambassador for the Great Barrier Reef.”
Those involved include youth travel company STA Travel, who has partnered with Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef and Tourism and Events Queensland to inspire people to visit the Great Barrier Reef and raise awareness of the importance of conserving this natural icon for future generations.
Applicants must be UK citizens aged between 18 and 35 and must be available for a minimum of six weeks, starting in January 2018. For further information, visit here.
