Miami is due to get an amazing new destination mall at a cost of $4 billion, and at six million square feet, it will be twice the size of the biggest existing mall in the US. Called American Dream, the retail and entertainment complex has just been approved by the Miami-Dade County Commission. It’s a sister mall to American Dream Meadowlands, a retail and entertainment complex currently under construction in New Jersey, which will be approximately three million square feet.
Developed by the Triple Five Group, American Dream Miami will be built on 175 acres of land at the confluence of Interstate 75 and Florida’s Turnpike, northwest of Miami International Airport, and the complex will include 2000 hotel rooms. Entertainment features will include an indoor ski slope, a ferris wheel, ice rink, movie theatre, amusement park rides, a submarine that dives into an aquarium with a coral reef, miniature golf, sports centre for competitive games, a fishing lake and performance venues. Its developers are hoping that the combination of retail, dining, entertainment and attractions will prove a winner, and they expect to create 25,000 jobs and attract 30 million visitors per year.
The anchor tenants at American Dream Meadowlands are Saks Fifth Avenue and Lord & Taylor and the centre also features The Collections – a dedicated luxury and fashion area, and The Dining Terrace – a collection of 15 restaurants showcased in one location. Due to open in 2019. it will feature a fully-enclosed indoor DreamWorks water park with a giant indoor pool, an indoor ice rink, a 16-storey Big Snow indoor ski and snowboard park, and a Nickelodeon Universe theme park, which will feature two record-breaking rollercoasters.
Other attractions at Meadowlands include a performing arts theatre, an observation wheel offering views of New York, movie theatres, an aquarium, a Lego Discovery Center and two 18-hole miniature golf attractions. To complement the shopping, dining and entertainment experiences, American Dream is dedicating 20,000 square feet to health, wellness, beauty and spa facilities to invigorate and pamper the weary shopper.
