Philadelphia has been named the most 'facial hair-friendly' city in the US

Great news if you’re hirsute and are planning to visit Philadelphia, as it was recently ranked the number one “facial hair-friendly” city across the US. Enthusiasm from the women of Philadelphia was a contributing factor in the fifth annual ‘Most Facial Hair Friendly Cities in America’ research study from men’s grooming company Wahl, which also analysed online searches relating to facial hair, positive conversations about beards and moustaches on various social platforms, and overall interest in the topic of facial hair.

On a national level, a love of beards prevailed as well, and revealed that 58% of US women prefer a man with facial hair over 42% who prefer a clean-shaven face. Millennial women showed a particular penchant for the hairy look with a 71% preference. In general, 65% of women find facial hair attractive, and 57% describe men with facial hair as masculine or handsome. As far as style, stubble topped the preference list and a well-groomed beard was a close second.

Philadelphia marks the starting point of Wahl’s annual mobile grooming tour which includes taking a mobile barbershop on the road to visit each of these cities. At each tour stop, Wahl’s team will give guys free facial-hair trims, and will donate a dollar for each one to ZERO – The End of Prostate Cancer. One guy from each tour stop location and one guy from online entries will be selected as as finalists in the Wahl Man of the Year contest, a competition that runs until 27 September 2018.
