If you would like a side order of puppy love with your lunch, a beach-themed dog café has just opened in Manchester. The city’s first café for dog-lovers and pooches has an adorable beach theme, complete with sand, and an even more adorable set of resident meet-and-greeters.
The Beach Dog Café in Wythenshawe is the brainchild of Tony and Tania Golden, who already run Central Bark, which offers doggie day care, home boarding and grooming.
The couple ran the business from home for the past five years. When it expanded and grew, they acquired a 14,000-square-foot warehouse, and decided to turn it into something special by the addition of the dog café.
Their location is surrounded by business parks, and they told Mancunian Matters that they felt it would be a lovely idea to give people a place to come to have their lunch break on the ‘beach.’
It also gives anyone who doesn’t have a dog of their own the opportunity to have a bit of puppy love during the day. They can hang with Alfie, the resident meet-and-greet dog, and some of his pals from day care.
The idea came about as the Goldens previously lived in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, before moving to England. They decided to bring some of the ambience with them and poured it into their beach-themed café.
One lovely aspect of the business is that the centre works with local shelters to help foster rescue dogs. It tries to match the dogs with caring homes through the café, as it creates an atmosphere that is much more welcoming for dogs and families looking to create a forever home.
The Beach Dog Café can be found at 6 Coldfield Drive in Wythenshawe and further information can be found on its Facebook page.
