Dubai’s biggest water park is set to become the biggest in the world with the introduction of a mammoth new tower and 12 new slides.

If you're looking for the wettest and wildest adventure next year, Aquaventure at the Atlantis The Palm in Dubai aims to break records with its latest expansion. Over the next 18 months, the water park plans to introduce 12 new slides and a mammoth 112ft (34m) tall tower known as the Trident in its aim to become the world's biggest water park (a title currently held by Tropical Islands Resort in Germany).

The park currently more than 20 rides and rivers but thrill-seekers will be treated to a whole new world of adventure with the addition 12 new slides that will cater to everyone from "little daredevils to water park veterans." One of the exciting new additions is the Mammoth Blast, described as the world's longest family adventure water coaster at 449m long. Park officials say it will deliver "uncompromising force at unprecedented speeds" which sounds like one for the water park veterans.

Nerves can also be tested on the Pipeline Blast/Flying Saucer 20 hybrid ride which will propel guests through gravity-defying turns at maximum velocity. There will also be plenty of milder thrills for little adventurers with the addition of a new children's area which will host four mini versions of the adult rides.

Meanwhile, Bahrain is opening the world's largest underwater theme park, complete with a submerged Boeing 747, as well as a variety of sculptures and artificial coral reefs.
