The airline has just announced that it will be serving afternoon tea on flights, with the help of celebrity chef and master pâtissier Eric Lanlard. Starting in late summer 2018, passengers in upper, premium and even economy class will be able to try Lanlard’s signature afternoon tea on day flights.

The high tea will come with homemade sandwiches, scones and macarons, so you can live out all your most British dreams while still in the air. To make sure it’s perfect for travellers, Lanlard will be trialling the high tea on a special flight to create a menu for each cabin.

There will also be a chance to really enjoy the high tea experience on the ground in London. The Virgin Atlantic Heathrow Clubhouse will offer an afternoon tea between 3 and 5:30 pm, starting this month. There, guests can have a pot of tea or rose champagne, and other foodstuffs such as prosciutto, sun blushed tomato and rocket on a stone baked Campagne brown roll, smoked salmon, cream cheese and dill mint mini croissant, broccoli, goat’s cheese and crew savoury tart.

For afters, there’s homemade plain and sultana scones with strawberry preserve, lemon and clotted cream, Eton mess verrine with strawberry coulis, apple and blackberry cake, and dark chocolate brownie with salted caramel sauce.
