The Maré favela complex in Rio de Janeiro's Zona Norte (North Zone) is hosting the first Comida de Favela, a food festival that celebrates and promotes the cultural and culinary diversity of the city's largest favela.

Running through 17 October, the event is organized by local NGO Redes da Maré and will feature traditional cuisines prepared by 16 local restaurants. Free transport will be provided on the weekend and dishes cost an average of R$15. Read more: rioonwatch.org
