Douglas and his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, are now selling their cliffside villa, S’Estaca. The star has made a video promoting the home he purchased back in 1990, and says that he has enjoyed “wonderful times” with his friends there. His visitors at S’Estaca include celebrity pals like Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman and Michelle Pfeiffer.

The villa was previously the country residence of Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria, who bought the main house in the 1860s and carried out many renovations. According to Michael Douglas, the archduke’s cousin Sisi, Empress of Austria, visited many times, arriving on his private yacht.

The estate spans 250 acres and is made up of seven separate buildings. Six of them are positioned around the white manor house at the centre. The property has ten bedrooms and can accommodate up to 20 guests at a time. Its amenities include a gym and private spa, an artist’s studio, a home cinema, wine cellar, library, marble-lined pool and staff accommodation.

All of the residences on the estate are surrounded by Mediterranean gardens, dotted with palm fruit and olive trees. The estate even has its own vineyard. A private pier gives access to a small harbour in the eponymous village of S’Estaca. Despite its secluded location in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, the nearest towns and the international airport of Palma are just a short drive from the estate.

According to Douglas, he fell under the spell of the “magical retreat,” and during his time there, has completely modernised and redecorated it. “My life has taken a new course, and now it’s time for me to let someone else enjoy the privilege and the adventure of S’Estaca,” he says. “Someone who will appreciate the beauty, privacy and uninterrupted views.”
