If you want to experience the best hotel the world has to offer, then journey into the Irish countryside where a luxurious manor has just claimed that title.
Adare Manor, in Limerick, is an incredible historic building that reopened late last year after extensive restorations, refurbishments and an expansion. But all the hard work has quickly paid off for the five-star hotel, as it just received the title of Hotel of the Year 2018 at the Virtuoso Best of the Best Awards. The high-end travel network gave the Irish hotel the award ahead of fellow luxury properties like the Berkeley in London, the Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat in France, One&Only Le Saint Geran in Mauritius, and the Royal Mansour Marrakech in Morocco.
The hotel is located in the picturesque village of Adare. The Neo-Gothic structure, set on an incredible 840-acre estate, is one of the most famous luxury castle properties in Ireland.
Adare Manor was originally made up of the original Adare House, a Georgian home built in the 1720s by Valentine Quin, grandfather of the 1st Earl of Dunraven. The property later went through renovations by the 2nd Earl, Windham Henry Quin, in the 1800s. The incredible home is an example of a “calendar house” and includes 365 leaded windows, 52 ornate chimneys, seven stone pillars and four towers, to correspond with the days and weeks in a year, the days in the week, and the seasons in a year.
After the 21-month renovations, the newly-designed resort has a new 42-bedroom wing, bringing the hotel to a total number of 104 bedrooms. There’s also a new ballroom with room for 350 guests that can cater to weddings and conferences. The hotel also boasts a spa, which is the first La Mer spa in Ireland and the UK. A newly-rebuilt and remodelled golf course has also opened at the massive site.
