Ikon is adding three new destinations to its mega-pass ski network as well as increased prices for the 2022/23 passes, which go on sale today.
Demand for ski season passes have skyrocketed in recent years with skiers and riders lured by competitive discounts and access to a growing list of destinations worldwide.
How to choose the best ski pass this winter
Alterra Mountain Company, one of the main multi-mountain pass players, announced it's bulking up its offering for the 2022/23 winter season by adding three more destinations to its Ikon Pass network: Sun Valley in Idaho, Snowbasin in Utah, and Chamonix Mont-Blanc Valley in France.
With access to 50 ski destinations across North America, Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, the Ikon pass taps into nearly every major skier market. But in previous seasons, multi-mountain passes like Ikon and Epic, have been criticised by some locals in ski towns who have attributed them to a surge in visitor numbers, leading to increased traffic on the roads, long lift lines, crowded busses and reduced parking spaces.

Ikon price changes for 2022/23 season
As tickets go on sale today, holders can also expect an increase in pass prices for the 2022/23 season. The adult (age 23 and up) price for an Ikon Pass is $1079, an increase of $80 compared to last season, whille it's $699 for ages 13 to 22, and $299 for children ages 5 to 12. The cost of an adult Ikon Base Pass is $749, an increase of $40 on the previous year.
There are some discounts to be had though. Renewing pass-holders will get a $100 discount for the Ikon Pass and a $50 discount for the Ikon Base Pass. Nurses, military members and college students can buy discounted passes with the Ikon Pass priced at $769 and the Ikon Base Pass at $569. There are also discounts of up to $200 when two child passes are purchased with an adult pass.

Additionally, new pass options have been introduced for next season. Starting at $249 adult, the new two and three-day Ikon Session Passes will be available for skiers and riders who want a shorter trip to the mountains at relatively more accessible price points.
Passes go on sale on March 10.

How to access Ikon's new destinations for 2022/23
Access to all three new destinations, Sun Valley in Idaho, Snowbasin in Utah and Chamonix Mont-Blanc Valley in France, are only available with the Ikon Pass. That buys seven-days access with no blackout dates. Chamonix is also available with the Ikon Base Pass, that gives holders five-day access to the iconic French skiing destination, though blackout dates apply.
