Sound & Light Show

Veliko Târnovo

Marvel as Veliko Târnovo's Tsarevets Fortress skyline is bathed in multicoloured light and lasers during the Sound & Light Show. This 40-minute audiovisual display uses choral music and flashes of light in homage to the rise and fall of the Second Bulgarian Empire. Check the website for a current schedule and to buy tickets for paid performances.

Shows are held throughout the year, starting between 6pm and 9.30pm, depending on the time of year. Two types of shows are on offer: free and paid shows. Free shows can be viewed from pl Tsar Asen 1 in front of the main gate of the fortress. Paid shows are viewed from a special panoramic viewing terrace (located at ul N Pikolo 6).

Concerning the show, historical insights are few, but it's an undeniably impressive spectacle: Tsarevets Hill is awash in crimson and green, while strings, cymbal clashes and traditional song swell to a crescendo.
