May 17, 2024: In the afternoon, we traveled to the Walled City of Cuenca, which is a UNESCO site. We met our tour guide, Diego Alvarez Martinez, at the Parador de Cuenca. We walked across the San Pablo Bridge to the walled city. Once across the bridge, we come upon the famous Hanging Houses of Cuenca. There used to be many of these hanging houses, but now, only three remain. We then walk over to the Cathedral of Cueca, which is notable for its Gothic, Romanesque, and Neo-Gothic architecture. From there, we visit the Mangana Tower and the Cerro del Socorro for views of the town. The Cerro is on the top of the Hoz del Huécar and there lies a large statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

May 17, 2024: This morning, we filmed at Quesos Artisanos Villarejo, which makes award-winning cheeses - especially Manchego cheese. We met with Miguel Romero Saiz, who gave us a tour of the facility. He showed us all the steps of making their cheese. Afterwards, we did a tasting of their award-winning cheese.

Afterward, we went to a nearby farm where they milk sheep for their cheese. Local farmer Jose Andres Prieto Valencia showed us how he herds the sheep and milks them.

Untamed Spain: A guide to its parks and wildlife

May 16, 2024: We started the day at the Centro Ecuestre Los Caireles. There we met our hosts Miguel Angel and his brother Jesus, who own and run the farm. (Miguel Angel wore a black vest.) The Centro is a horse back riding school. We shot pics at their farm and then headed to the town of Consuegra. On the mountain overlooking the town, there is a castle and several windmills. We shot pics and video of Miguel Angel and Jesus riding around the windmills and the castle. This area is notable because it is where the fictional Don Quixote rode around in Miguel de Cervantes’ famous novel. Afterward, we returned back to El Centro where we filmed our hosts riding by grape vineyards and olive groves to the nearby Villafranca de los Caballeros lagoons.
