If you're a European considering a move to another city in the future, you may gain insights from a new report that outlines the cities that offer the best quality of life for people living abroad.
Copenhagen and Bern took the joint top spot as the most liveable cities in the world, according to the latest annual Location Ratings report from global mobility expert, ECA International. This report measures the quality of living conditions for Europeans abroad in over 490 locations around the world to assess the level of difficulty they will experience in adapting to a new location. Liveability factors analysed including the availability of health services; housing and utilities; isolation; access to a social network and leisure facilities; infrastructure; climate; personal safety; political tensions and air quality.
The report concludes that clean air, good facilities and low crime rate are among the benefits that make Copenhagen and Bern the most liveable ones in the world for Europeans living abroad. The Hague and Geneva come in joint third place, Eindhoven and Stavanger are joint fifth, Amsterdam and Basel come in seventh place, and Dublin, Luxembourg City and Gothenburg all tie for ninth place. Four cities in the Netherlands and four in Switzerland feature in the top 20.
“Europeans relocating for work or looking to move abroad can expect a good quality of life in many locations in Ireland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany or Norway; countries that dominate the top 20 of our rankings,” says Neil Ashman, senior location ratings analyst at ECA International. “Northern European cities in places such as Scandinavia, the Netherlands and Switzerland have consistently scored well for ex-pat liveability. Excellent transport links, a high standard of healthcare and long-term political stability mean that overseas workers from elsewhere in Europe can adapt to these locations with ease.”
The Canadian cities of Toronto and Vancouver are the highest-ranked non-European locations on the list, beating major European capitals such as Madrid, Berlin and even London for liveability. According to Ashman, those moving there will experience lower crime levels, good public facilities and better air quality.
