If you're looking for something new on the accommodation front, you might enjoy staying at new luxury mirrored pods that have recently been launched in New Zealand.
Located on the 2428-hectare Ben Avon Station in the wilderness of the Ahuriri Valley, North Otago, the Lindis Pods are surrounded by conservation parks, mountains and beech forest. Designed by architect Noel Martin, each 20-metre-squared pod features a king-sized bed, an en-suite bathroom with a black marble sink, an outdoor gas-heated tub and a private deck.
The pods have walls of one-way glass that offer 180-degree uninterrupted views of the mountains and night skies. They are made from dark wood, creating a further connection with the nature on their doorstep. The pods are located a short walk from the main lodge and guests can use its eco-amenities, and their mirrored finish makes them all but invisible to passers-by.
They have been created using the same sustainable design principles as the main lodge. An onsite backup generator, efficient LPG boilers, geothermal heat pumps, rainwater harvesting systems and state-of-the-art insulation are just a few of the features that make the perfect eco escape.
There are three pods onsite catering for up to two guests each, and Lindis has added room for another six guests to enjoy its spectacular valley whether taking over the whole lodge exclusively, or just one of the pods as a private get-away. "The double-glazed mirrored glass walls on three sides give guests not only privacy and unspoiled views of the scenic Ahuriri Valley, but also make it cosy in winter and cool in summer,” says Sally Lilley, director at New Zealand In Depth.
