A stylish new rustic resort has opened in Mexico that allows guests to stay in beautiful seaside huts on a private beach, as well as take time to relax and engage in a number of carefully crafted wellness activities. Called Habitas Tulum, the bohemian hotel includes a community hub for visitors to engage with each other, and has been designed to be ecological as well as comfortable.

Located between the jungle and the Caribbean Sea in the seaside town of Tulum, the resort sits on an acre of unspoilt, picturesque land. Built in collaboration with local carpenters and artisans, it is the first permanent accommodation by Habitas, a lifestyle brand that curates global experiences that focus on wellness, food and music. Surrounded by lush greenery, each pathway leads to one of 32 individual guest rooms, as well as a three-storey lobby with a restaurant and rooftop, a wellness area and a swimming pool with a deck. Built on elevated platforms for minimal impact on the natural environment, every room is ecologically built from locally sourced material. Each room also has a palapa roof and a private outdoor terrace.

Accommodations come complete with private outdoor rain showers, where guests can make use of a line of custom-made bathing products that use all-natural ingredients like coconut, avocado and honey. The lobby serves as a community hub for visitors to dine and mingle, with multiple seating areas and options. On the ground floor is Moro, a Spanish restaurant with Moorish influence and dishes that include lamb meatballs with lime yogurt, chicken tagine and baked eggplant with chermoula. The hotel also includes a jungle courtyard cinema and concert space for live music.

“The property itself highlights why we love Tulum, first for the infinite richness of pre-Hispanic culture and natural beauty and second for its position as a cultural melting pot. We aim to inspire, entertain and empower so that those who spend time at Habitas return ready to have a positive impact in their own community. As the property is built with an emphasis on social architecture, there are many opportunities for guests to integrate and meet people through communal spaces and activities,” Eduardo Castillo, Co-Founder and Creative Director of Habitas told Lonely Planet Travel News.
