A theme park in the USA is offering a very creepy challenge this Halloween season; spend 30 hours in a coffin and you could win a prize.
The macabre gauntlet has been thrown down by Six Flags in St Louis, Missouri. The Coffin Challenge will see six people battling it out to see who can stay in their coffin for 30 hours, from 1pm on Saturday 13 October to 7pm the following day.
The coffins themselves will be 2’ x 7’ and are described as “slightly used” (perhaps best not to question what that means). Participants must be over 18, not have any medical conditions which could make it dangerous to lay down for 30 hours and provide their own bedding like pillows, sleeping bags and blankets.
In turn, the amusement park will provide all your food and drink (which must be consumed in the coffin) and a station to charge your phone so you won’t completely be without entertainment. Participants are allowed one six-minute bathroom break every hour. If you leave the coffin at any time other than your break, you’ll be automatically disqualified and a park representative will be there all the time to ensure there’s no cheating.
If you’re currently musing how much money it would take to get you to take up the challenge, you might be underwhelmed. The winner of the challenge will get $300, 2019 season passes to the park and be able to keep their coffin, which could cut down costs in the future for them.
The bad news is that if more than one person lasts the 30 hours, the winner of the money will be chosen at random, although everyone will get season passes. During park opening hours you can have a guest keep you company but you must brave it out alone in the dark.
The Coffin Challenge is part of a wider Fright Fest at the park which runs from 28 September to 28 October. There will be special haunted attractions to enjoy and ‘scare zones’ dotted all around the park. If you’d like to take the Coffin Challenge you can register online here.
