An immersive Frida Kahlo exhibition is set to tour the United States in 2022 with stops currently scheduled in Boston, Chicago, Houston, Denver, Los Angeles and Dallas.

The recent proliferation of immersive art exhibitions has brought the works of Van Gogh and Monet to life in digital displays across the United States. If you haven't seen them in person, you've likely come across them on TikTok, Instagram or even Netflix's Emily in Paris. Now Italian film producer Massimiliano Siccardi (the man behind the crowd-pleasing Immersive Van Gogh shows) is set to give Frida Kahlo's work the digital treatment with a touring exhibition in 2022.

The multi-sensory experience takes visitors on a trip through the Mexican artist's work, engulfing them in digital displays of signature pieces including The Two Fridas, The Wounded Deer and Diego and I. Visitors walk through darkened exhibition spaces listening to a soundtrack from Italian composer Luca Longobardi, while illuminated images of Kahlo's art dance across the walls.

The immersive art exhibition trend, geared towards accessibility, entertainment and Instagram-friendly snaps, is universal. Similar shows have attracted sold-out audiences in Europe, Asia and Australia, and continue to draw crowds in the US and Canada, with separate companies often competing with each other to attract customers keen on experiential art. In 2021, there were multiple immersive Van Gogh exhibitions touring the US, all with similar names, similar displays and similar price-points, which naturally caused confusion among ticket-holders.

For now, there's just this immersive Frida Kahlo exhibition (called Frida: Immersive Dream) touring the US in 2022, and a separate one scheduled in Washington, D.C. called Mexican Geniuses—which focuses at the work of both Kahlo and her artist husband Diego Rivera.

The Frida: Immersive Dream experience will kick off in February and tour Boston, Chicago, Houston, Denver, Los Angeles and Dallas, with another stop in Toronto, Canada. The exact locations have yet to be announced but tickets are already available, starting from $39.99 per person. For more information, see Frida: Immersive Dream.
