Now that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have announced that they are to step back as senior members of the Royal Family, Madame Tussauds London has reacted to this surprise announcement by moving its wax figures of Harry and Meghan from its Royal set.
The waxworks were first unveiled the night before the royal wedding at a special stag and hen party in May 2018. Meghan’s figure was dressed in the green P.A.R.O.S.H. dress she wore for her engagement announcement, with a replica of the engagement ring designed by Harry sparkling on her left hand.
Having previously stood alongside the Queen, Prince Philip, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Harry and Meghan will now be separated from the family to mirror their ‘progressive new role within the royal institution.’ "From today Meghan and Harry’s figures will no longer appear in our Royal Family set," said general manager, Steve Davies. "As two of our most popular and well-loved figures, they will of course remain an important feature at Madame Tussauds London as we watch to see what the next chapter holds for them.”
Madame Tussauds was set up by French artist and model-maker Marie Tussaud in 1803. The visitor attraction is filled with waxworks and immersive experiences, giving visitors the chance to pose for the perfect selfie with the likenesses of top celebrities, politicians, sportspeople and royals. This is not the first time the waxwork Meghan has been moved, as last summer she was relocated to the 'A-list Party' room for a spell. "It’s not necessarily forever," Steve Davies said at the time, "and we’re not splitting our loved-up couple! We’re just allowing Meghan to mingle in her more-familiar celebrity circle for a while."
