We go on vacation hoping to have a fun adventure and get away to it all, but sometimes real-life intrudes, such as when we need to do our laundry. If you're holidaying in New York, a laundromat with an organic café might make the whole experience more palatable.

The Celsious laundromat in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, is the brainchild of sisters Corinna and Theresa Williams, who were born and raised in Germany. With backgrounds in fashion, design and journalism, they come up with the concept when Corinna moved to New York to work as US editor-at-large for Harper's Bazaar Germany.

Celsious was born when she and Theresa were inspired to create a warm, friendly, environmentally-aware laundromat where people could relax and enjoy a coffee or bring their laptop along to work. With the aim of being a laundry that is customer-focused and enjoyable, the laundromat hosts regular community events. The design is bright and airy, with lots of natural light, high ceilings and plants, which provides a welcome alternative to the usual functional, but sterile, laundromats.

The Clean Café offers a full café menu in the mezzanine, and this space, along with a garden at the back, allows customers to relax while their clothes are being washed and dried. The food is offered by nutritionist and chef, Marissa Lippert, and coffee is roasted by Caffe Vita, which works with farmers who are committed to sustainable practice.
