Thrill-seekers visiting New York City may want to check out Edge, the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere. It stands 1131 ft from the ground and offers incredible 360-degree views of the city. The new experience on the 100th floor of the 30 Hudson Yards building is due to open in March 2020.
The 7500 sq ft sky deck extends out 80 ft to give visitors a great view of New York City’s iconic skyline, Western New Jersey and New York State, spanning up to 80 miles.
Its unique vantage point on the western side of Manhattan lets visitors take in the entire skyline from the tip of Central Park down to the Statue of Liberty and beyond. The adventure begins before you even get there as the elevator ride to Edge will take a mere 60 seconds. The observation deck is bordered by 3000 sq ft of glass walls, divided into 79 panels and boldly-angled outwards.
Each panel is nine feet tall and weighs 1200 pounds. Bolted together and anchored to the east and south sides of the building, the sky deck weighs 765,000 pounds and is comprised of 15 sections. There is a 225 sq ft glass floor in the middle of the deck, which will provide amazing photography opportunities.
Both the platform and building have been designed by New York-based architectural firm, Kohn Pedersen Fox. There will be a Champagne bar inside the 100th floor, where guests can take in 360 degrees of enclosed views. A new 10,000 sq ft restaurant, Peak, is also due to open on the 101st floor, conceived by London-based hospitality group Rhubarb.
Edge will be open 365 days per year from 8am until midnight. Prices will cost $31 (€28.15) for children aged six to 12, $36 (€32.69) for those aged 13 to 61, and $34 (€30.87) for seniors over 62.
