Nepenthe comes from a Greek word meaning ‘isle of no sorrow,’ and indeed, it’s hard to feel blue while sitting by the firepit on this aerial terrace. Just-okay California cuisine (try the renowned Ambrosia burger) takes a backseat to the views and Nepenthe’s history – Orson Welles and Rita Hayworth briefly owned a cabin here in the 1940s. Downstairs, casual Café Kevah serves coffee, baked goods, light brunches and the same head-spinning ocean views on its outdoor deck (closed during winter and bad weather).
