Great Ocean Road and 12 Apostles Day Trip from Melbourne

After pickup from your Melbourne or St Kilda hotel, leave the city heading over the Westgate Bridge bright and early to maximise your time on the Great Ocean Road.After just over an hour’s drive, the first stop will be on a popular surf beach near the town of Anglesea for morning tea (included). It is then a short drive before stopping at Memorial Arch. The arch commemorates the returned soldiers who worked on the construction of the 151 mile (243km) stretch of road following World War I. Continue along the Great Ocean Road taking in the spectacular ocean, beach and cliff views. Stop in the small town of Kennett River home to wild koalas. Your guide will help you spot them amongst the eucalyptus trees. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant in the seaside town of Apollo Bay.After lunch the road and the ocean part ways for the next few hours as you head into the Otway Rainforest. A short 30-minute guided walk will take you right into the heart of the rainforest. You’ll be dwarfed by some of the largest tree species in the world. Your tour host will pick you up at your accommodation to begin your small group adventure along the Great Ocean Road. Travelling towards your first stop keep your eyes out for wild kangaroos before arriving at the gateway to the great ocean road, Anglesea where we will enjoy a gourmet morning tea on the beach (weather permitting). Journey through Aireys Inlet past the Split Point Lighthouse before arriving at the Memorial Archway built in 1939, marking the gateway to this famous drive that winds and hugs the coastline and cliff faces.  Take the opportunity to get a postcard shot of the Great Ocean Road sign hung from the Memorial Arch. Make your way down to the beach for your first coastal walk, keeping your eyes out for wild koalas and learn how to spot them in their natural habitat. Continue towards Cape Patton the highest elevation of this morning’s drive, the last section of the Great Ocean Road was complete in 1940. At the time, it was considered an engineering feat of the modern world supported by thousands of tonnes of boulders. Stop for an incredible photo opportunity before making our way to Apollo Bay. 3-Day Melbourne to Adelaide Tour Including the Great Ocean Road

After pick up from your Melbourne city hotel or Federation Square, travel through the vast volcanic plains on route to Geelong where you have time to stroll along the beautifully transformed waterfront. The first stop along the coast is at Bells Beach, a famous surfing beach. The focus then turns to Australian native wildlife as you have the opportunity to observe Eastern Grey Kangaroos in the wild. You'll then begin traveling the very scenic, cliff-hugging section of the Great Ocean Road. While winding along, stop to view the ‘Arch’ while your guide shares the story of this memorial road. After lunch in Lorne, you'll stop at many scenic spots including Kennett River where you can see koalas and many colorful native birds in the wild. Take a 1-kilometer guided walk through a cool temperate rainforest gully to see the world’s tallest flowering plants and prehistoric plants. Dinner tonight is at the iconic Chris's Restaurant. Day 2 starts with breakfast at Bay Leaf Cafe before a scenic drive through the Otway Ranges and onto the ‘Shipwreck Coast’. The first stop is at Castle Cove overlooking the Aire River valley. The 12 Apostles are Icons of Australia’s natural beauty. You'll arrive as the stacks are lit with the morning sun making them perfect for photos and crowd free. After hearing of the creation of the stacks and holding some of the limestone rock you can explore the boardwalks or brave a helicopter flight along the coastline (own expense). You'll then visit ‘Loch Ard Gorge’, the site of the most famous 19th century Australian shipwreck. While hearing the tale you will be able to see and hold some original artifacts from the ‘Loch Ard’.  Port Campbell is the lunch stop for today. After lunch, visit London Bridge, Bay of Islands and Bay of Martyrs. The journey then continues through Warrnambool and onto Tower Hill Game Reserve where you may have the chance to see koalas, kangaroos and emus. Continue through picturesque Port Fairy towards Mount Gambier, home of the ‘Blue’ crater lake. Check into your accommodation at ‘The Commodore’ in Mount Gambier where dinner and breakfast are included.  Day 3 starts with a drive through the Coonawarra wine region and a visit to the World Heritage-listed Naracoorte Caves National Park for a cave tour with a local guide. Continue through another South Australian wine region of Padthaway to Keith for lunch. Visit the very popular tourist village of Hahndorf and Mount Lofty summit for impressive, birds-eye views of Adelaide and surrounds. Arrive in the Adelaide at around 6pm where your tour ends.

2-Day Great Ocean Road Tour

Day 1: Depart MelbourneMeet your guide at St Paul's Cathedral at 615am for a 6:30am departure, leaving Melbourne early to avoid the traffic and crowds. The Great Ocean Road is divided into three stages. On the first day, you will cover stage one, the Surf Coast. The first stop for morning tea on the Torquay foreshore. After Torquay travel thorough Bells Beach to see kangaroos and enjoy some amazing ocean views and more surfers. We then travel Anglesea stopping at the new Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery, before heading to view the Split Point Lighthouse in Aireys Inlet. After the lighthouse it is your first chance to take a walk along the magnificent Fairhaven Beach situated at the Memorial Arch for some great photo opportunities. Then it is time for a walk down to the Erksine Falls, the largest falls in the region. After visiting the falls you'll head into Lorne for a lunch break. Browse in the local shops, take a walk on the beach and if the weather is good, there is time for a swim in the ocean. After lunch (at own expense) take a walk to the second waterfall for the day. You'll then travel along the winding road, rounding right next to the ocean stopping at various ocean lookouts, before heading to Kennett River to look for wild koala and parrots. Continue to Apollo Bay, stopping at Mariner’s Lookout, before being dropped off for your overnight accommodation (at own expense). Day 2: Apollo Bay to MelbourneWe departing Apollo Bay at 7.am. Today you will travel through stage 2 of the Great Ocean Road, Otway Forrest and stage 3, shipwreck coast. On the first stop of the day is a walk through the rainforest, to view some giant trees and wonderful ferns. After stopping at an ocean lookout head up to Lavers Hill for morning tea. It is then time to farewell the forest and continue towards the shipwreck coast to view the famous 12 Apostles. Visit Gibson steps, the 12 Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge, Razorback and Island Archway. At the 12 Apostles for an extra fee you can experience a discounted helicopter flight. It is then time for lunch (at own expense) at the local village, Port Campbell. After lunch continue along the Great Ocean Road stopping at all six remaining lookout points, The Arch, London Bridge, The Grotto, Peterborough, Bay of Martyrs, and Bay of Island.
