This month, fans of the American sitcom The Golden Girls will be taking off on an exciting themed cruise that departs from Miami and visits Key West and Cozumel. From crafting to karaoke, followers of Rose, Dorothy, Blanche and Sophia will be able to celebrate their favourite characters in a shared, immersive and fun way. Although the cruise quickly sold out last year, the company that came up with the idea has just announced another one due to launch in 2021, and seats are already booking up.
Called Golden Fans at Sea, the five-night event will take place from 5 – 10 April 2021 on the Celebrity Infinity ship, and is run by events company Flip Phone, which specialises in dance parties and drag events. According to the company, the activities taking place on the 2021 cruise may vary or evolve from the current season, but they will definitely include some of the highly anticipated ones such as a sail away cheesecake party, panel discussions, a karaoke party, a trivia night and a Golden-Girls themed drag show, as well as events at a Shady Pines crafting corner, a Key West bar crawl, costume contests, talent shows and fancy dinners. Dorothy’s bingo may even be on the cards too.
“The show has inspired me my entire life. I was a fan since I was a child, and spent my life watching the show with my grandma. This is an event created by fans, for fans. It's a chance for fans to connect and share their love of the show. [The reaction has] been great! This show has touched so many people, and they are thrilled to meet others. We have guests coming from around the world to meet each other and celebrate their love for the show!” a representative of Flip Phone told Lonely Planet.
Prices start at $999.99 per person for a double occupancy cabin.
