A hotel in Montana welcomed a surprise guest recently when a baby bear was discovered asleep in one of its bathrooms.

The adorable creature found a ground floor window with an opening and clambered into the ladies’ bathroom at Buck’s T-4 Lodge & Restaurant in Big Sky. It was discovered chilling out around the sink area by surprised staff, who had been alerted by noises coming from the bathroom. When the bear didn't take the opportunity to leave of his own accord, hotel staff called on the services of Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, who came out to deal with the cute interloper.

The bear, a yearling aged between one and two years old, was safely tranquillised by an animal control worker and removed to a waiting truck. Guests were entranced as it was carried through the hotel lobby, and also concerned for its welfare. In a video subsequently posted by the lodge, one woman can be heard asking why a substance was being put in the sleeping bear's eyes, to which the worker replied that it is was to keep them lubricated for the journey.

Basic medical checks were done to ensure the bear could be safely transported, and it was relocated and released in another area of Montana after it came around from the sedation. The lodge posted the video of the incident to its Facebook page afterwards, and praised those who came to its assistance. “Huge shoutout to Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks for keeping our guests safe, while recognising what a once-in-a-lifetime experience it was," it said.
